That's what I had to do. Thanks guys, I had the greying out thing as well. So: Set to windowed mode - apply. Enter native/desired resolution (in my case 1980*1020) manually - apply. Set to Borderless Windowed - apply. Et voila.

WebTake the time to look at 21:9 monitors. You can get some in 100hz 1440p and 144hz 1080p. If ffxiv is your main game... 21:9 might be a game changer. The first time I ever booted the game from the launcher, it launched in windowed mode at 3840 x 2160p (or maybe it was lower, but it still fit the size of my tv).
